It is an unfortunate fact that no one in Illinois is immune to the possibility that they may be involved in a motor vehicle accident. No matter how carefully a person drives, there will always be those who drive recklessly, leading to accidents that could seriously injure innocent people.
Recently, five individuals in Marion County had to be hospitalized after a motorist ran through a stop sign. A 24-year-old man was heading eastward in a pickup truck when he failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection. He hit the side of a vehicle being operated by a 43-year-old man.
The force of the collision caused the second driver to lose control of his vehicle. His vehicle rolled over and landed standing up in the ditch to the right of the road. That man’s vehicle contained two passengers. There was also a passenger in the pickup truck that hit that vehicle. All five individuals involved in the crash were hospitalized for further medical treatment. The driver of the pickup truck might face charges, depending on the outcome of the investigation into the crash.
Charges aside, the fact of the matter is that all drivers are tasked with operating their vehicles in a manner that is reasonable under the circumstances. Disobeying traffic laws, including failing to stop at stop signs, may constitute unreasonable behaviors that could lead to liability.
Those who are injured due to the act of a negligent driver may face a litany of issues in the aftermath of the crash. They may incur significant medical expenses, they may be unable to work to provide for themselves and their family financially and the crash may have caused them to endure great pain and suffering. Therefore, those involved in car accidents caused by a negligent driver may want to determine whether it is possible to seek compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.
